(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On a recent episode of CNN’s “The Source,” Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) expressed his doubts about the peril faced by former Vice President Mike Pence during the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021. When asked by host Kaitlan Collins whether he had reservations about possibly being former President Trump’s vice presidential candidate, considering Trump’s treatment of Pence, Vance shifted the discussion towards his views on President Biden. Collins had to refocus the conversation to get a direct response from Vance.
Collins highlighted that unlike Biden, Trump did not reach out to his vice president during the crisis at the Capitol, nor did he condemn the threats to Pence’s safety. In response, Vance stated that he had not yet discussed the possibility of running with Trump and expressed skepticism regarding the actual danger to Pence’s life during the events.
Vance argued, “I’m truly skeptical that Mike Pence’s life was ever in danger. I think people in politics sometimes really exaggerate things.” Collins countered by suggesting that Pence himself might disagree with that assessment.
Continuing, Vance downplayed the severity of the January 6 events, labeling them as merely a bad day and a riot, and dismissed the idea that Trump had endangered lives by his calls for peaceful protest. He responded to Collins’ reminder that rioters had chanted “Hang Mike Pence!” by questioning whether Trump should be blamed for every negative remark made by his supporters.
Secret Service records reveal that Pence, along with his wife and daughter, was moved to a secure underground location on that day, where they stayed for approximately five hours. In his memoir, Pence conveyed his anger but stated he was not fearful during the breach of the Capitol.
Pence has publicly criticized Trump’s actions on January 6 and has stood by his decision to certify the 2020 election results. He attempted a presidential run last year but withdrew from the race in October.
