( – Former President Donald Trump noted this week that if he wins back the White House in 2024 one of the big decisions he would need to make relates to whether he should keep the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C.

The Biden administration has proposed that the FBI should be divided between D.C. and its new site in Greenbelt, Maryland, which is going to soon be constructed.

On Tuesday, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social and wrote in an all-caps post that the new building of the FBI needed to be constructed and be a centerpiece in D.C. and not Maryland. He added that it would be part of his plans to completely renovate the city and turn it into the safest place in the world.

As he pointed out, centralizing the bureau and keeping it close to the Justice Department headquarters would also help ensure that there would be more effective collaboration between the two. What’s more, Trump had pushed that the presence of the FBI in Washington D.C. could help reduce crime in the city, as the crime rates have skyrocketed in the past few years because of the under-equipped law enforcement.

Trump pointed out that the FBI needed to be a walking distance from the Justice Department building and that the two would need to closely collaborate. As he argued, a two-minute walk for meetings was much better than the two-hour drive that would be required for someone to get to Greenbelt, Maryland. He added that similarly it is important to have the FBI in D.C. and it is important for violent crime to be stopped quickly.
