(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – The Republican National Committee has initiated legal proceedings against Jocelyn Benson, the Secretary of State of Michigan, accusing her of not adhering to federal requirements for maintaining a current and accurate voter registration list. According to Michael Whatley, the RNC Chair, the foundation of election integrity is predicated on the maintenance of precise voter records, as mandated by the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). He asserts that Benson’s oversight has led to bloated and incorrect voter lists in Michigan as the 2024 elections approach.

The lawsuit brought forth by the RNC alleges that an overwhelming majority of Michigan counties, 76 out of 83, which equates to 91.5%, have voter registration numbers that exceed compliance standards set by the NVRA. Specifically, it points out that 53 counties report a greater number of active voters than the total of adults over the age of 18 residing within their jurisdictions.

Benson has dismissed the allegations, criticizing the lawsuit in communications with the Detroit Free Press as a veiled public relations effort, devoid of any legal merit and laden with unfounded claims aimed at undermining public confidence in the electoral system. She rebuked the misuse of legal channels to foster doubt about the integrity of democracy.

The practice of suing governmental bodies over voter registry discrepancies is not unprecedented. Judicial Watch, for instance, has successfully challenged several states and cities, including Pennsylvania, New York City, and Colorado, to enforce proper voter roll management.

Through this lawsuit, the RNC seeks a judicial verdict confirming Michigan’s non-compliance with the NVRA. Their goal is to enforce actions by state officials to develop and execute effective voter list maintenance programs. This effort is aimed at rectifying the current failures to meet federal standards and ensuring that ineligible voters are removed from the rolls.
