( – On Sunday, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) slammed Republicans over their attempt to use the murder of Laken Riley, in order to “score cheap political points”. This statement came after Riley had been mentioned during the State of the Union address.

Warnock during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” argued that during his time as pastor, he had presided over numerous funerals and delivered eulogies, and that he knew that the greatest grief was when parents had to bury their children. He added that it was unfortunate that there were people who were trying to use this grief just as a means of scoring “cheap political points.”

He added that there were people who had refused to debate or support the bipartisan legislation and yet they were now using this death for their political benefit. As he pointed out, people were capable of doing better than that and they were in a position to secure the U.S. border in order to guarantee that everyone’s children were safe.

On Thursday as he was heading into the chamber for the State of the Union address, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) had met with Biden and had given him a pin in honor of Riley. She then proceeded to heckle the president over the death of the student who is suspected to have been killed by an illegal migrant from Venezuela who had entered the United States in 2022.

Biden during his address had pulled out the pin and had given his condolences to Riley’s parents.
