(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Tuesday, former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann argued that if former President Donald Trump is found guilty of having falsified business records in the hush money trial in New York, then he could end up facing time in prison.

There are 34 felony counts that have been brought forward against Trump, who is accused of having attempted to cover up the hush money payments he had made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her keeping quiet about their alleged affair ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

In a CNN interview, Weissmann had told Wolf Blitzer that Trump could potentially end up facing time in jail. As he argued this is one of the cases where the judge will have to look at the rule of law in order to see how other such cases were treated for people who had come from a similar criminal background. This is one of the areas where the pretrial behavior of the former President could end up being particularly important.

Weissmann pointed out that Trump has frequently blasted both the judge overseeing this case and his family. On Monday Judge Juan Merchan expanded the gag order in order to block Trump from making any further attacks against his daughter Democratic strategist Loren Merchan.

The original gag order only blocked Trump from making statements in public about prosecutors, witnesses, court staff as well as their family members in cases where those remarks were aimed to interfere with the case. The former prosecutor had also found that if Trump was found guilty then he would most likely not receive any favors during the sentencing because of his prior conduct.
