(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Friday, former President Donald Trump called on Arizona lawmakers to urgently revise the state’s abortion laws following a state Supreme Court decision that reinstated an 1864 statute, criminalizing the procedure. Trump’s remarks on his social media platform, Truth Social, reflected his concern over the ruling, which has catalyzed a political uproar, with Democrats sharply criticizing his stance on abortion.

Trump described the Arizona Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the pre-statehood law as excessively harsh and inappropriate. He emphasized the necessity for the Arizona Governor and legislature to intervene swiftly and sensibly to address the situation. Trump advocated for a compassionate approach that would ideally include exceptions for rape, incest, and threats to the mother’s health.

This plea came amidst political tensions, as Republican efforts to reverse the decision in the Arizona Legislature were thwarted by Democrats earlier in the week. The Arizona Supreme Court, ruling on Tuesday, decided that the 1864 law, which makes abortion a felony punishable by two to five years in prison, should be enforced. The law only allows exceptions to save the life of the pregnant individual.

However, the case was returned to a lower court to resolve questions regarding the constitutionality of the law. In response, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and the state’s Democratic attorney general have opposed the ban, with Hobbs calling for its repeal and the attorney general refusing to enforce it. Governor Hobbs criticized Trump’s influence on the state’s issues during an appearance on ABC’s “The View,” accusing him of exploiting the situation for political gain.

Meanwhile, Vice President Harris visited Arizona on Friday to hold Trump accountable for the restrictive policies resulting from the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The Biden campaign spokesperson, Sarafina Chitika, also linked the broader national impact on abortion to Trump’s actions, noting his pride in appointing Supreme Court justices who played a role in overturning Roe v. Wade. Trump’s administration had previously supported legislation that restricted abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
