(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Ahead of the 2024 elections, law enforcement is proactively setting up safeguards in response to persistent misinformation from the 2020 election cycle, particularly in Arizona, a key battleground state. In Arizona, election officials and public figures continue to face ongoing threats and harassment, exacerbated by the prevalence of conspiracy theories.

Gary Restaino, the U.S. Attorney for Arizona, highlighted that threats against election officials in the state constitute a significant portion of all such cases nationwide. He noted the challenges in prosecuting these threats and expressed concern about the tense atmosphere as the rematch between former President Trump and President Biden looms.

The 2020 election in Arizona, narrowly won by Biden, was marked by significant misinformation and controversies, including the convening of fake electors by Trump supporters. The state’s attorney general is still investigating these incidents, with no clear timeline for completion.

In the 2022 gubernatorial race, Republican candidate Kari Lake, a Trump ally, promoted election fraud narratives, which she continued after her defeat. Lake is now aiming for a Senate seat, and Trump is expected to be the GOP nominee again, fueling concerns that election denialism will persist.

Threats to election workers and officials have escalated, with Arizona being a focal point due to its political significance. The Department of Justice has prosecuted numerous cases of threats to the election community, with several involving Arizona officials.

Legal experts like John Dixon Keller, who leads the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force, acknowledge the difficulty in prosecuting these threats due to the fine line between threatening and protected speech. He emphasized the need for societal improvement beyond legal actions to address the normalization of threats against government officials.

The increase in threats has led to concerns about retaining election workers, with many leaving their jobs due to safety fears. The DOJ task force, along with the FBI, is actively engaging with election officials to address and respond to threats, viewing election security as a top priority.

The recurrence of key political figures in the upcoming elections, coupled with the growth of online election denial networks and external factors like foreign interference, has heightened the sense of a volatile threat landscape for the 2024 elections.
