An Emerson poll found the Trump card is not the guaranteed winner some assume. Fifty-three percent of voters said Trump’s endorsement made no difference to their vote, while 29 percent said it helped and 18 percent said it hurt. The same poll showed rival Ralph Norman edging Graham 22 percent to 19 percent, a tight race that undercuts the idea that pure Trump alignment locks up a primary.

The Washington Post reported that influential conservative activists in South Carolina remain unmoved by Trump’s endorsement of Graham, suggesting grassroots skepticism runs deeper than polling alone shows. That matters, because activists organize turnout, and turnout wins primaries far more than headlines do.

The Institutional Stakes Behind the Filibuster Debate

The irony here is hard to miss. Lindsey Graham himself once vowed to defend the filibuster against Democratic attempts to gut it, saying he would speak “until I fell over” if a talking filibuster returned. His sister now wants to tear the same rule down, just for a different party’s agenda. Senate rules built to protect the minority party do not stop protecting anyone once your side is in charge.

Conservatives have relied on the filibuster for decades to block bad legislation when Democrats held the majority. Trading that protection for short-term wins is a gamble future Republicans may regret the next time they are in the minority. Voters deserve a senator who defends the Constitution she swore to protect, not one who reduces the job to a loyalty pledge.
