(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Representative Laurel Lee from Florida, a member of the Republican Party, expressed criticism during a Fox News interview on Tuesday regarding the current roles of U.S. Border Patrol agents under President Biden’s administration. Lee portrayed these agents as being relegated to tasks not aligned with their primary responsibilities, such as distributing blankets and essentially functioning as “travel agents” to facilitate the entry of people into the United States. She emphasized that these agents are capable and eager to enforce the nation’s laws and protect its borders but are being assigned duties that deviate from these objectives.
This statement comes in the wake of a recent report by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which highlighted a significant number of migrant encounters at the southern border for November. The agency recorded 242,418 encounters in November, a slight increase from October’s figure but lower than the record number reported in September.
Troy A. Miller, a senior official at CBP, commented on these figures, underscoring the agency’s commitment to managing border security while adhering to legal and humane protocols for processing migrants. Miller acknowledged the challenges faced by CBP personnel in handling the high levels of encounters at the southwest border.
The Republican party, including Rep. Lee, has been openly critical of President Biden’s approach to managing the southern border. Lee specifically accused President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of failing to support Border Patrol agents adequately, contributing to what she describes as an “unprecedented and unsustainable” situation at the border.
Recent efforts in the Senate to reach an agreement on border security, which would also facilitate additional aid for Ukraine and Israel, have not been fruitful. The Senate concluded its sessions for the year without reaching a consensus on this issue.
