(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – A top orthopedic surgeon in Tennessee was shot to death on Tuesday following a targeted attack by a patient who has been identified as Larry Pickens, 29.

Pickens had allegedly spent hours waiting before shooting Dr. Benjamin Mauch, 43, in a Campbell Clinic Orthopedics exam room. The incident took place in Collierville, which is about 30 miles away from Memphis.

Dale Lane, the Collierville Police Chief, stated that this appeared to have been an interaction solely between the two men and that the gunman had not attacked or targeted any of the other employees or patients who were in the building. After firing against Mauch, he proceeded to try and escape by running out of the building, but was unsuccessful in his attempt. Pickens was arrested around five minutes later. While Pickens had a gun, he was not holding it at the time of his arrest. The police released the name and photo of the suspect on Wednesday.

Pickens is being charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault, and his bond was set at $1.2 million. His arraignment is scheduled in Collierville Town Court on Thursday. The Police Department added that they were going to be checking if Pickens has any criminal history with other agencies, as they did not have any prior contact with him.

Pickens’s motive for the shooting has not been disclosed, but according to Tennessee Senate Minority Leader Raumesh Akbari, D-Memphis, the shooter had threatened a clinic employee only a week before this incident. Mauch had graduated from the University of Tennessee-Memphis Medical School with a specialty in elbow, hand, and wrist surgery.
