(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) over his invitation to Vice President Kamala Harris to Florida in order to debate the new curriculum standards for African American history that were approved last month.
Gaetz, in a post on X, previously called Twitter, stated that DeSantis was “desperate enough” that he was “thirsty” to have Harris visit. DeSantis, who is one of the 2024 Republican presidential nominees, sent a letter to Harris on Monday inviting her to join him in Florida so that the two could discuss the new standards for teaching African American history. As he stated in the letter, he was able to meet Harris as early as Wednesday if she was willing to come to Florida.
In the letter he had sent the Vice President, he had argued that in his state they were willing to participate in “open and honest dialogue” and that Harris was obviously able to visit his state even on short notice. He added that, given her concerns about the standards, he was inviting her to discuss them.
Harris has been a critic of the new teaching guidelines since they were approved. During a trip to Jacksonville, Fla., she even argued that Florida was trying to push “propaganda” onto school-age children by having teachers speak about the ways slaves benefited from slavery.
DeSantis has slammed Harris for her comments, arguing that she was perpetuating a “fake narrative” with her comments. Still, the new history standards have been blasted by both Republicans and Democrats.
