(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Thursday, during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” former President Donald Trump stated in response to the recent protest outside the Union Station in Washington, D.C., that anyone who desecrates the U.S. flag should face a one-year imprisonment. This statement came after protesters lowered and burned the U.S. flags and then proceeded to replace them with Palestinian flags.
Trump has maintained that burning the U.S. flag should be criminalized. He proceeded to scoff at those who would say that such a move is “unconstitutional” and argued that they needed to work with the U.S. Congress to get it criminalized. He noted that if it ends up being criminalized then people will never see the U.S. flag burned again.
The Supreme Court had ruled in the 1989 Texas v. Johnson case that burning the U.S. flag is actually protected under the First Amendment.
Despite this, both parties have condemned the protest outside Union Station during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech in the U.S. Capitol.
D.C. Metropolitan Police ended up making six arrests at the protest, and it was reported that at least five protesters had been arrested in the House gallery during the speech.
Netanyahu had used a part of his speech to denounce the protests that had broken out across college campuses and the protest that was taking place on Wednesday, arguing that those who criticized him stood “with evil.”
Palestinian health authorities have reported that since the start of the military campaign against Gaza, there have been 38,000 Palestinians who have lost their lives.
