Trump Breaks Silence On Collapsed Border Deal

( – On Friday, former President Donald Trump praised the GOP for the failure of the bipartisan border deal and took credit for helping destroy the legislation that had been negotiated for months.

Trump pushes Republicans to vote against the bipartisan bill, which was released last Sunday. As he had argued, passing the bill would be a victory for the Democrats and President Biden ahead of the general election in November. Trump is likely to be the Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential election and will most likely face President Biden in a 2020 rematch.

Trump appeared to be pleased with his role in the bipartisan bill failing noting during his keynote speech at the National Rifle Association in Harrisburg, PA, that they killed a deal that would have provided “illegals taxpayer-funded lawyers.” He added that they had managed to kill the deal and that this was hard to say as there was always the possibility that a bad bill could be brought back to life as “these guys” could make a “lot of money” using bad bills.

However, despite Trump’s statements, there were some Senate GOP members who took issue with Trump’s role in the bill failing. However, others in the House claimed that the bill was “dead on arrival.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had argued following the release of the bill that it was going to help deal with the surge in immigration and that this could potentially be the last opportunity they had to pass immigration law reforms. However, Trump and other Republicans rejected the border deal arguing that it did not give the GOP everything that they had demanded.
