(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – MSNBC host and former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki could be subpoenaed by Congress over the Biden administration’s botched 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal.
On Tuesday, Republican Michael McCaul (Texas), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, sent Psaki a letter requesting she attend a transcribed interview about her role as White House Press Secretary during the Afghanistan withdrawal. McCaul also suggests that if Psaki refuses, the Committee would “use all the tools at its disposal” to guarantee her attendance.
McCaul’s letter comes after Psaki’s false claim in her new book “Say More: Lessons from Work, the White House, and the World” had been exposed.
In the book, Psaki claims President Joe Biden did not look at his watch during a dignified transfer ceremony for American service members who died in a terrorist attack during the botched withdrawal.
However, pictures of Biden’s attendance at the event and the firsthand accounts of service members’ families contradict Psaki’s claim, prompting Psaki to concede that the event would be edited in future reprints and the ebook would accurately reflect what occurred.
In his letter, McCaul blasts Psaki for attempting to “profit” from the tragic Afghanistan withdrawal, in which thirteen U.S. service members were killed by a terrorist bombing at Kabul’s airport after the Taliban quickly gained control over the country as the U.S. withdrew its troops.
McCaul explained the Committee expected Psaki to “appear before it to answer questions” about her “role” in the withdrawal, which resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and 170 Afghan civilians.
McCaul also noted that a probe by the Committee revealed that the former White House Press Secretary “played an important role” in the withdrawal.
The Texas Republican notes that Psaki had been tasked with “communicating the withdrawal to the American people,” and. therefore she would have critical insight into the decision-making and plans surrounding the withdrawal and subsequent evacuation of American citizens and Afghan allies.
