(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Tuesday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) announced on his podcast that he would bring forth legislation that would defund special counsel Jack Smith’s probes relating to former President Donald Trump. Gaetz’s announcement came only a few hours after Trump had been informed that he was the target of an investigation by the Department of Justice relating to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot and his attempts to remain in the White House following his loss in the 2020 presidential election.

Gaetz claimed that this constituted an attack on Democracy and that they were attempting to interfere with the election results. As such, he vowed that he would introduce legislation that would defund the two investigations that Smith is leading.

He also accused the Department of Justice’s investigation of lacking transparency, claiming that they have not responded to any of the requests he has sent for more information about the members of Smith’s team.

Gaetz is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). Previously, Jordan had also threatened that he would reduce the funding given to the Department of Justice and the FBI after claiming that the federal government has weaponized these two agencies.

Trump was already indicted in one of the two investigations led by Smith in connection to the alleged mishandling of classified documents after he left the White House in 2021.

Gaetz revealed that he was aware that his proposal would never be signed by President Biden and that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer [D-N.Y.] would not bring up his legislation, but that the American people deserved to know that each Congress member counts.
