(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Following last week’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, House GOP lawmakers have expressed concerns about the safety of Supreme Court justices.
On Tuesday, House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) along with one of the panel’s subcommittees chair Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland in which he called for a staff-level briefing relating to what steps have been taken to provide enhanced security to the justices.
In the letter, the pair argues that in light of the recent incident and the heightened rhetoric, there are continued concerns about the security and safety of officers in all judicial branches, and especially the justices of the Supreme Court.
Security for justices has continued to be a concern even prior to the Pennsylvania rally that Trump had held earlier this month, where a gunman had been perched on a rooftop and had opened fire in an attempt to kill the former president. The shooting resulted in Trump’s right ear being injured, while two other attendees were critically injured and one attendee died. On Tuesday the Secret Service director resigned following the criticisms that emerged after the incident.
Concerns regarding the security of the justices had been heightened two years ago following the draft opinion by the Supreme Court that had been leaked which would overturn Roe v. Wade, taking away abortion protections.
On Tuesday, in the letter, Issa and Jordan slammed the recent attacks against the court, which they argue come from “partisan activists and “left-wing groups.” The duo also spoke up against the recent proposal that would establish oversight for the Supreme Court.
