(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Saturday, former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Mike Pence stated during an Iowa campaign stop that it was “ironic” that the Biden administration announced this week that they would be resuming construction of the Trump administration’s border wall.
Pence proceeded to state that the 26 miles of wall they were going to construct were not enough to protect the border. This was a point that Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, agreed on.
Allred argued that the physical barriers can only act as a partial solution to help secure certain high-traffic areas along the border. He added that what was needed was a comprehensive immigration reform as well as additional funding for border security.
On Thursday, the Biden administration announced that they waived 26 federal regulations in order to allow the construction of a wall that spans more than 20 miles in Texas.
On Friday, in a statement to The Hill, Allred argued that this was a necessary step to help mitigate the migrant crisis and help border communities in his states, which have been overwhelmed.
The migration issue is divisive within the Democratic Party, as previously President Joe Biden had been against the construction of a border wall. This is a position that many Democrats agreed with, which is why they have slammed Biden over the change in his promises. However, other Democrats have stated that additional border security is essential in order to deal with the surge in border crossings.
Republicans are in favor of the construction of a wall along the Texas border, stating that this could be part of the solution to the migrant issue.
