( – On Monday, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) slammed former President Donald Trump over his remarks following the death of Alexei Navalny, one of the most prominent Russian opposition leaders. Pelosi argued that the former President’s remarks were “beneath the dignity of a human being.”

On Friday Navalny had been found dead in a penal colony in Russia. His death was announced by the government and is widely perceived to most likely have been the result of political assassination. On Monday, Trump first stated the death after he was slammed by Democrats for ignoring the issue.

In his statement, he proceeded to draw a comparison between the death of Navalny and his legal circumstances. He also avoided placing any of the blame on Russian President Vladimir Putin despite that being something that President Biden and other allies of the United States had done.

On Monday, during her interview on MSNBC “Inside with Jen Psaki” Pelosi argued that this constant approach that Trump has to beholden Putin makes one wonder what is going on and the relationship between the two. In regards to the statement made by Trump, she argued that it was “beneath the dignity of a human being.” She proceeded to say that it was horrible to consider that this was something other people had come up with and that not even the former President would have gone that far. She added that the statement needed to disqualify him from running for office, especially for the White House.
