(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has taken issue with the actions of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, accusing him of engaging in “corruption.” This follows a 6-3 decision by the Supreme Court to reject President Biden’s debt relief initiative on Friday.
The Supreme Court majority concluded that the Biden administration lacked the essential permission to provide student loan forgiveness without obtaining consent from Congress.
Justice Alito, in particular, has faced mounting criticism prior to this verdict. According to a report by ProPublica, Alito allegedly accepted a privately sponsored flight from a prominent GOP contributor. Advocates from the progressive camp have been urging Alito to step down from both cases related to the student loan forgiveness scheme, as the benefactor of his trip heads an organization that has submitted a friend-of-the-court brief in support of the objections against the relief plan.
Ocasio-Cortez, following the Friday verdict, highlighted that Alito had received extensive high-end vacation presents worth several thousands of dollars from a billionaire involved in lobbying against the student debt relief plan. After accepting this gift, Alito cast his vote against the plan, thus challenging the integrity of the Supreme Court by creating an impression that its decisions could be influenced by gifts.
Alito isn’t the only Justice implicated in controversies concerning the acceptance of unreported luxury gifts. A separate report from ProPublica disclosed that Justice Clarence Thomas had also received gifts from a major GOP donor. Alito’s extravagant fishing expedition, as detailed in the ProPublica report, was allegedly funded by Paul Singer, a billionaire hedge fund manager with past legal interests before the court.
