(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – A mother from Pennsylvania, 30, has been shocked to see the increase in her grocery bill after she accidentally found a receipt from a grocery trip in 2019. Americans continue to have a hard time understanding the effect that inflation has had on their daily life, however, one of the areas in which many of them are feeling the pinch most intensely is at the grocery store.
Mother of twins, Johna Palladino, who works as an insurance agency manager, stated that she had taken notice of how much food costs had risen. This led to her taking a moment to look at an old Wegmans receipt from 2019 in order to see how much grocery prices have actually increased.
As she said in 2019, her receipt for a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch was $3.19, while the same box would cost $4.59 now. Butter has had a much more drastic increase going up from $2.49 to $4.29, while olive oil has increased from $17.99 to $30.99.
In an interview with Newsweek, she noted that olive oil had been the one to surprise her the most as the increase had been quite high. As she pointed out she had expected to see an increase in grocery prices after COVID, however the increase in food prices has been so high that to her it appears more like price gouging.
She added that if in 2019 anyone had asked her if she expected the prices to be as high as they are today, she would have stated no. However, she did note that she expected to see things getting like this following the pandemic. As she argued she is not shocked to see profits using societal issues to increase their profit, she did not find it shocking that this had occurred. However, she did claim it was bothersome that there had not been any price regulations.
