( – On Wednesday, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, D. stated during an event that he supported any possible probe into Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

A reporter had specifically asked Pritzker during the event whether or not he had considered “stepping in” as a means of addressing the corruption allegations connected to the “super mayor.” In response, he added that they have considered whether this is an area in which they should place their resources either through the state police or by asking the Attorney General. He added that in reality there are already two important investigations and that they would provide their support in any way possible. As he pointed out there was no point in investigations that were just running over each other and it was better to just have two concentrated investigations that would allow them to look at the facts.

Pritzker pointed out that currently both former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the FBI are looking into the actions taken by Heynard. He added that both of them were fairly good authorities to look into the investigation and discover the truth and that he was supporting their work.

On June 3 there had been a messy town meeting after the supporters and critics of the Dolton mayor had gotten into a shouting match. The police were forced to get involved in order to break the two groups up before the situation turned violent.

Henyard has repeatedly claimed that the accusations against her are a political smear campaign that the media had launched against her. She has specifically told her opponents that they are just following a made-up story created by the media.
