( – On Monday, comedian Jon Stewart used a segment of “The Daily Show” where he discusses politics to talk about Hunter Biden, Jared Kushner, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Stewart opened up the segment by referring to Sen. Bob Menendez’s (D-N.J.) legal troubles, as the senator is facing obstruction and federal bribery charges. He then proceeded to argue that there are several different ways in which politicians and government figures can use their positions to grow their wealth, including through the use of stocks and influence to support the finances and careers of their family members. As he argued there are several examples of this including Biden, Kushner who is former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, and Pelosi.

In the clip, Stewart pointed out that Menendez had exchanged gold bars for favorable legislation which was incredibly corrupt. However, he argued that the status quo was not different from the actions taken by the senator.

In 2022 Pelosi had faced criticism over her husband Paul Pelosi’s sale of $5 million in shares of a chipmaker shortly before it was announced that the House would be voting on a bill regarding domestic chip manufacturing. In a statement on Tuesday, Pelosi’s spokesperson Aaron Bennett argued that Pelosi did not have any stocks and that she had not been involved or known about any transaction.

A different spokesperson for the former Speaker had previously stated that Paul Pelosi had bought options for buying stock over a year before exercising them.
