(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Thursday, Jacob Chansley, a resident of Arizona and participant in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, who has been dubbed “QAnon Shaman,” filed a statement of interest to run in the 8th Congressional District election in Arizona as a Libertarian.
The man who originally became famous for the face paint, horns, and animal fur he had worn during the Capitol riot is now attempting to run for a Congressional seat that will be empty as Rep. Debbie Lesko, R-Ariz., has announced that she will not be seeking reelection.
Lesko, 64, was originally elected to office in 2018, and her term is going to end in January 2025.
The 35-year-old Capitol rioter, who had at one point become the “very image” of the riot, with many videos and photos of him carrying an American flag through the Capitol building being captured, was arrested and charged over his involvement in the riot. He previously pleaded guilty to civil disorder and violent entry that were connected to the Capitol attack. In November 2021, he was sentenced to 41 months in prison; however, he was transferred to a Phoenix halfway house after having spent only 27 months in prison.
Chansley stated during his sentencing hearing that he had been wrong to enter the U.S. Capitol and that there was no excuse for his actions. He also added that he repented for his actions and that he was not a “domestic terrorist” or “violent criminal.” He noted that he was a good man.
