( – On Monday, the fallout from the breakdown in the discussions over immigration reforms continued as one Republican Senator referred to the reforms as the necessary price that needs to be paid in order for supplemental aid to be provided to Ukraine and Israel.

The reform talks were supposed to continue throughout the weekend; however, on Friday, the talks fell through as a result of the divide over the border reform differences. Congressional Republicans have insisted on supporting their demands for reforms and are calling for the passage of the “Secure the Border Act” bill before they proceed to agree to any additional aid packages.

On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., slammed the Republicans while on the Senate floor, arguing that they were unwilling to meet the Democrats halfway. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, argued that the Democrats did not understand the situation.

NBC News reported that Cornyn had stated that there was a big misunderstanding between them and some of the Democrats and argued that this was not a traditional negotiation, as they would not back down on their demands for reforms. As he argued, the price for the reforms was the provision of supplementary aid to Israel and Ukraine.

However, Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., who, along with Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., took part in the negotiations, stated that this was the first time he had ever heard that these were not negotiations but rather demands that they were called to simply accept.
