(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Last week an immigrant from Venezuela was arrested after he allegedly carried a knife and machete outside the U.S. Capitol. The man has now been taken into custody by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
On Dec. 27, the U.S Capitol Police arrested the man who they later identified as Jose Leonardo Marquez, 23. According to the report, an officer had seen him on the Capitol building’s east side where he appeared to have a “strange behavior.”
The officer proceeded to talk to the man before noticing that in his pocket was a brick. The officer noted that the man had then pulled out a knife. Later the officer noticed that under his clothing the man was also hiding a machete. Officers were able to arrest the man after removing the machete from him.
Capitol Police have noted that the charges against the man include possession of a prohibited weapon, and carrying a dangerous weapon. At the time of Marquez’s arrest, there was nothing pointing towards him targeting any Congress member.
On Tuesday, ICE put out a statement noting that the Washington Field Office’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers had taken the man into custody. ICE noted that the man had illegally entered the United States at an unknown location and date.
On August 21, 2022, the U.S. Border Patrol arrested Marquez who had been released on Alternatives to Detention as there was no capacity for him to be held in detention.
