(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Barbra Streisand, in her newly released memoir “My Name is Barbra,” which was released on Tuesday, has defended those Hollywood stars who have spoken up about political issues. In the memoir, she also opened up about her friendship with former President Clinton and stated that former President Trump was a “liar.”

In the book, she writes that she had opinions and the same rights as every other citizen to express those opinions. She added that she believed it was their responsibility to share them.

Streisand, 81, who is an EGOT winner, supporter, and fundraiser for the Democratic Party, questioned why artists and celebrities were being criticized for expressing their political opinions. She further questioned why so many people got angry when artists expressed their opinions.

As she argued, artists had the capacity to act as the “country’s conscience.” She further pointed out that the work they do works as a “reflection of the times,” and it could challenge people to see what many would “prefer to ignore.” As she said, the artists had the opportunity to give a voice to those who were voiceless and to speak up while others remained quiet. This is “why art is the enemy of tyrants and dictators.”
Streisand added that it was not only the right but also the responsibility of artists to be active and to express questions about authority.

Streisand also took a moment to blast Trump in her memoir, arguing that for Trump, lying was as easy as breathing. She further argued that she was also not in favor of the country being “lied to.”
