(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Tuesday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) warned that he would be considering filing contempt charges against FBI Director Christopher Wray if he did not provide access to the document that he was subpoenaed for by the date specified.
House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) first issued the subpoena calling for Wray to produce any FD-1023 forms from June 2020 with the word “Biden” earlier this month. Comer has alleged that the form in question may contain detailed information about a criminal scheme that involved foreign nationals and then-Vice President Biden. The scheme included exchanging money for influence over policy decisions.
McCarthy, while speaking with Fox News on Tuesday, stated that if Wray missed the deadline that was set for that day, then he was “prepared to move contempt charges in Congress against him.
Comer had sent a letter to Wray on May 24 in which he expressed his frustrations about the FBI’s unwillingness to cooperate with the committee’s request and threatened to file contempt charges if the subpoena deadline of May 30 passed without the document being handed over. In the letter, he further stated that the FBI has refused to even acknowledge whether the documentation requested by the Committee even exists and has refused to make any “attempts to engage in a reasonable accommodation process.” He proceeded to argue that the FBI’s continuous refusal to provide the document was obstructionist.
McCarthy also pledged to move forward with contempt charges and even called out Wray personally for not supplying the document in question.
