GOP Struggling To Figure Out Who To Impeach

( – The House Republicans have been pushing to impeach members of the Biden administration, however, according to a senior House Republican source, the impeachment that is furthest along relates to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

This does not necessarily mean that the impeachment proceedings are ready, but rather it shows that Republicans believe that they can make the strongest case against him with the evidence they have gathered. In the meantime, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., recently spoke about a possible impeachment of not only President Biden but also Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Whether or not there will be an impeachment will depend on a lot, especially as the House Republicans only have a four-seat majority. As a result, they are often all required to agree in order to successfully push impeachment articles ahead and to Congress.

For the Republicans, one of the problems is that there are many conservatives who are wanting to impeach Biden and members of his federal administration “no matter what.” However, this is not enough for them to lead a successful impeachment process.

In fact, it is all about math. In 2020 President Biden won the districts in which 18 House Republicans are sitting. A vote to impeach Biden or a member of his cabinet by any of these members could potentially be a death sentence for those House Republicans that are in swing districts.

McCarthy does not currently seem ready to push for impeachment, but it will depend on what his conference wants and is pushing for. In the past two weeks, he has been focused on unifying his conference which will be essential if they try to push for anyone’s impeachment.
