(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Republican Sen. Tom Cotton from Arkansas argued that Lloyd Austin, the Secretary of Defense, needed to provide an explanation as to why the news of his hospitalization where not made immediately liable to senior officials and the White House. He further pointed out that the secrecy came at a time when the Biden administration was dealing with a number of national security matters and international issues.
On Monday Austin had been admitted to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. On Friday, Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder reported that the hospitalization had been the result of complications in a recent elective medical procedure. Ryder argued that the reason this information had not been made publicly available earlier was because it related to private medical and personal information.
However, officials from the White House, National Security Council, congressional leaders, and staffers from the Defense Department all noted that they had not been notified of the hospitalization.
On Saturday, Cotton put out a statement noting that Austin needed to address the recent report that the Defense Department had kept his hospitalization a secret from the National Security Council and the President. He added that the Secretary of Defense is essential in the line of command between the U.S. president and the military. He further pointed out how important this chain of command is in cases where decisions need to be made instantly.
Cotton stated that if this report had been true then it was “shocking” and there would need to be consequences.
