( – A group of Republican lawmakers has blasted the Colorado Supreme Court over the latest ruling which bars former President Donald Trump from appearing in the GOP primary ballot in the state because of the 14th amendment. Some GOP members have also claimed that this is an attempt to keep Trump from winning in 2024.

On Tuesday, the Colorado Supreme Court noted that due to Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol insurrection, the former President would not be allowed to appear in the primary ballot. The decision was made following a 4-3 ruling, with the court ruling that Trump had been involved in the insurrection through the promotion of unfounded election widespread fraud claims, while also choosing to push his supporters to march to the Capitol at the time. Some of Trump’s supporters had opted to attempt to stop the certification of the presidential election results at the time.

Following the decision, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) slammed the Court claiming that this ruling was just a “thinly veiled partisan attack.” In a statement, Johnson pointed out that regardless of what someone’s party affiliation was, U.S. citizens should not be denied the right to support the candidate that they want to vote for, especially when that candidate is the former U.S. president and the current frontrunner in the Republican primary race.

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung also pointed out that Trump was planning on appealing the ruling to the country’s Supreme Court. The Supreme Court currently had a 6-3 conservative majority, with three of those conservative judges having been selected by Trump.
