The legal document, spanning 16 pages and submitted in a New Hampshire court, implicates Biden, his election campaign, and multiple fundraising committees. The core of the lawsuit revolves around two assertions made by Biden in a debate against Trump on October 22, 2020.
While discussing foreign electoral interference, Biden eventually alluded to Giuliani, stating, “His close associate, Rudy Giuliani, He’s manipulated by the Russians. He’s receiving misinformation that’s not factual.”
The suit by Giuliani argues that this comment portrayed him to the American public as deceptive.
Later, when Trump brought up the controversial story about Hunter Biden’s laptop, Biden responded by highlighting endorsements from numerous former intelligence officials who indicated it resembled a Russian disinformation scheme.
The controversy surrounding this laptop emerged when Giuliani released contents from it ahead of the 2020 elections. He has consistently asserted that the device contains compromising information relating to Joe Biden.
During the debate, Biden referred to a letter from ex-intelligence officials suggesting the laptop story could be a product of Russian misinformation.
The lawsuit emphasizes that Biden was aware his remarks on the laptop and Giuliani’s involvement were misleading. While Hunter Biden hasn’t fully confirmed the contents of the laptop, he did recognize some data as his own. Furthermore, he pursued legal action against Giuliani recently.
Giuliani’s legal case accuses President Biden and his affiliates of defamation, libel, and misrepresentation. Giuliani seeks undisclosed compensation and a public retraction from Biden.
Biden’s campaign has yet to comment.
This legal move by Giuliani occurs as he confronts his own legal challenges. He faces charges in Georgia related to election manipulation and has several ongoing civil suits. Despite denying charges in Georgia, he is also grappling with financial difficulties, including lawsuits for unpaid legal fees.
