(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Norm Eisen, a legal expert for CNN, claimed there is little chance former President Donald Trump will be acquitted in the hush money trial after jury deliberation begins.
Prosecutors allege the former President falsified business records to obscure a hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election to prevent her from making the alleged affair public.
Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business documents, charges he denies.
In an interview with CNN’s Jim Acosta, Eisen described the case as a “winnable case” but not a “slam dunk,” suggesting the “odds” of the prosecution securing a conviction being upwards of 80 percent.
Eisen suggested the defense had used a “scattershot approach” and wasn’t attempting to get “an acquittal” but rather was “hoping for… one angry juror.”
Eisen suggested the defense was hoping for one juror who felt “sympathy for Trump” or didn’t “follow the evidence and the law.”
Eisen suggested the case centered on the testimony of Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, who recalled to the jury that when Trump was his boss, he directed him to make the payment to Daniels in the months before the 2016 election.
Prosecutors argue the payments to Daniels were to intentionally mislead voters.
The legal expert predicted both the prosecution and the defense would have a “field day” with their closing arguments while suggesting the defense would go after Daniels and Cohen in a “scorched-earth attack.”
Eisen added that he believed the case would be “realistically… winnable” had the defense “pursued a different strategy” and focused their efforts on developing areas where Cohen was not corroborated, suggesting Trump’s attorneys “haven’t had a focused presentation.”
Renato Mariotti, a former federal prosecutor, also noted in the interview that a hung jury would still be a win for the former President, suggesting Trump’s team could still “spin” a hung jury “as a win.”
