( – A recent survey conducted by the Angus Reid Institute reveals that a significant portion of Canadians harbor concerns about the stability of U.S. democracy, particularly if former President Donald Trump were to serve another term. The poll indicates that 64% of Canadians either strongly agree or agree with the notion that U.S. democracy might not endure another four years under Trump’s leadership. Additionally, about half of the Canadian respondents perceive the United States as potentially evolving into an authoritarian state as the election period intensifies.

When contemplating the future of the U.S. under Trump’s potential re-election, 62% of those surveyed in Canada believe that the situation would deteriorate considerably. In stark contrast, only 19% express similar concerns about the current President, Joe Biden.

The survey also highlights apprehensions among Canadians regarding the integrity of the upcoming U.S. election. A majority, 61%, express a lack of confidence in the adequacy of measures in place to prevent fraud and external interference in the 2024 elections. This skepticism extends to the likelihood of cheating in states governed by both Republican and Democratic leadership, with nearly half of the respondents considering it a probable occurrence.

Furthermore, the poll suggests that Canadians generally view President Biden as a more stabilizing force for the U.S.-Canada relationship compared to Trump, with 64% holding this view. On the economic front, over 50% of Canadians believe that a Biden victory would be more beneficial for the Canadian economy than a Trump win. However, nearly 30% think that the outcome of the U.S. election would not significantly impact Canada either way.

The survey also reveals a political divide among Canadians in their economic outlook. Conservative Canadians are more inclined to believe that Trump would be more beneficial for the economy, with 37% endorsing this view. Conversely, a substantial majority of liberal respondents favor Biden for economic reasons.
