(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Monday, President Biden touted the release of five Americans who had previously been detained in Iran. He also called for accountability and for Iran to provide information on what happened to Bob Levinson, who disappeared in 2007 during a CIA mission. The American is now presumed to be dead.
In a statement regarding the five citizens, Morad Tahbaz, Emad Sharghi, Siamak Namazi, and two others who chose to remain anonymous, Biden pointed out that they had gone through “agony” and “suffering.” The five Americans landed in Doha, Qatar, after their release was triggered by the unfreezing of $6 billion in Iranian oil funds.
Biden further thanked Qatar, South Korea, Switzerland, and Oman for their assistance in helping facilitate the release. As he pointed out, though, while celebrating the release of the five individuals, they could not forget that accountability was still necessary for Levinson’s case and that his family deserved answers about what had happened.
The White House revealed that later on Monday, Biden also had a call with the families of the five individuals who were on their way to Qatar. After 2 p.m., the White House confirmed that the Americans had left Qatar and were heading to Washington, D.C.
On Monday, the Biden administration also announced that sanctions would be placed on Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) over their human rights abuses and unlawful imprisonment and interrogation of the five prisoners, as well as the lies regarding Levinson and his whereabouts.
