( – President Joe Biden’s commencement speech at Morehouse College received mixed reactions — some students applauded while others turned their back on the President in solidarity with Hamas.

Biden’s decision to give his commencement address at a historically Black men a college

Biden’s address at Morehouse College, a move many had criticized as being purely political

Some students had also requested that the college rescind the offer to Biden given his stance on the Israel-Hamas war.

Biden addressed his detractors in his commencement speech, declaring Gaza faces a “humanitarian crisis” and explaining his reason for calling for “an immediate cease-fire,” prompting applause.

Biden acknowledged during the primarily uninterrupted speech that the ongoing conflict in Gaza “angers and frustrates many of you.”

Although Biden’s speech wasn’t interrupted by protests, some students turned their chairs around to have their backs facing him.

During the graduation ceremony, one student briefly hoisted up the Palestinian flag and another stood up, turned their back to Biden, and raised their fist.

Some graduates also showed their solidarity with Palestinians by donning keffiyehs — a black and white headscarf traditionally worn by Palestinian men but intended to show solidarity with Palestine in the ongoing conflict.

Biden’s remarks come as the President hopes to drum up support among young voters, who’ve become jaded because of his stance in the Israel-Hamas war.

Many young voters have called to boycott Biden going into November, a move that spells bad news for the President, who currently trails former President Donald Trump in swing states.
