(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Former President Donald Trump has alleged that Special Counsel Jack Smith was trying to ruin the holiday period for his staff. In a recent filing on Wednesday, Trump’s lawyers complained about the petition sent by Smith to the U.S. Supreme Court to have them assess Trump’s immunity claim in this case.
Trump’s attorneys pointed out that the schedule that had been proposed by the prosecution would require that the opening brief from former President Donald Trump be due the day after Christmas. In the filing, they point out that in order for this deadline to be met the support staff and attorneys of Trump would be required to work throughout the holidays, which would cause disruptions in travel plans and family activities.
The filing proceeds to liken Smith to the Grinch, arguing that he was attempting to find a way to destroy Christmas.
On Monday, Smith filed a petition with the Supreme Court in an attempt to bypass the appeals court and bring the presidential immunity directly to the Supreme Court. This is not a common move and it showed that the Special Counsel is set on ensuring that the trial in the election interference case will begin on its scheduled day on March 4, 2024.
The justices were quick to accept the request from Smith to expedite the consideration, which would require Trump’s team to respond by December 20.
On Wednesday, Trump’s legal team argued that the proposed schedule was unreasonable when considering that the holidays were coming up.
