( – The National Rifle Association blasted an ATF proposal, which they argued will “unjustly criminalize” Americans who sell their firearms. As they pointed out, the rule would also create confusion for the legal gun owners that are engaging in the firearm transaction.

Fox News Digital, in their report, noted that during an exclusive statement, Randy Kozuch, the executive director of the NRA-ILA, stated that the proposed rule was just another attempt to destroy the Second Amendment. He added that this rule would have the potential to criminalize even lawful transactions involving firearms. As he pointed out, it also went completely against the NRA-backed Bruen ruling while also creating confusion for cases where lawful firearm owners need to sell or purchase legal firearms for a variety of purposes, including self-defense.

The ATF2022R-17 proposal, which is otherwise known as the “Definition of ‘Engaged in the Business’ as a Dealer in Firearms’, would amend the regulations of the agency and include some of the provisions included in the 2022 gun control law known as the Bipartisan Safety Communities Act. As part of the new proposal, the definition of who is included under the term “dealer” would be expanded to anyone who offers to sell or sells firearms. Under the new definition, individuals who opt to sell their firearms for other forms of profit, including personal property or services, would fall under the law.

The NRA has pointed out that this rule could lead to a lot of confusion as firearm owners are not clear on which types of transactions require a federal firearms license.
